About Us
AKC Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs From Blossom Hill
Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs have been a "BIG" part of our lives for over ten years.

We shared our lives and homes with a number of breeds over the years, then we learned of the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog.  We were sure this breed would fit perfectly in our home.  After some research we were convinced, this was the dog for us!  We found a wonderful breeder and purchased our first Swissy, Lily.  Lily has been our mentor.  We learned so much from that first and very special girl.  She has taught us the ways of the Swissy, the temperament of the Swissy, the working abilities of the Swissy and also the health concerns of the Swissy.  She was "The coolest old gal on the block!"

Well, you can never have too much of a good thing!  The following year we imported Violett from Switzerland and the year after we imported Iris from Switzerland.  Our Swissy family has grown from there.  We now have both Violett are Iris children and grandchildren.

We believe working dogs should work.  These dogs were not satisfied with just a few romps around the show ring and their AKC Championships.  They want a job.  We have enjoyed weight pulls, rally, sheep hearding, nursing home visits and school visits with our dogs.  This crew loves every minute of it.  Our dogs have pulled carts in parades, wagons full of vegetable from the garden and the kids and their candy from house to house on Halloween.

After moving from the Chicago Area to West Central Illinois in 2004 our Swissys have experienced even more of their "farm dog" heritage.  With acres to run, hiking paths and creeks to romp through and now the addition of sheep to our hobby farm, our dogs are in their glory.

We breed only a couple of litters each year.  Our puppys are raised in our home with our family.  Our primary focus is on health and temperament.  All dogs considered for breeding have OFA certifications and are evaluated for temperament.  We welcome you to meet and interact with our dogs.  It is very important to us that our puppys become fine members of wonderful families.  We believe this begins with good sound breeding practices.

We have had the great pleasure of meeting many wonderful people through this breed and have made many friends along the way.  The Greater Swiss Mountain Dog has brought great joy to our lives.

Please feel free to contact us we are happy to share!
